Our History

The Turkstra Lumber Company is a family owned and operated business that has served Southern Ontario and the Niagara Peninsula for over 55 years. With 12 lumber yards and three manufacturing plants we provide a complete range of products for individuals and contractors in the home building, renovation and commercial construction industries.

Each of our 12 branches is a full-service traditional lumber yard. Experienced inside and outside sales staff prepare detailed quotations and provide construction expertise throughout our service areas. Each branch maintains a complete inventory of wood products including framing lumber, engineered flooring, plywoods, pressure treated lumber, cedar products, pine, mouldings and doors. Related building products such as hardware, wall paneling, roofing, insulation, and drywall are immediately available.

To complement the branches and to provide quality service to our many customers, we manufacture our own roof trusses (Turkstra Trusses), vinyl-clad windows, all-vinyl windows and exterior door systems (Turkstra Windows) and wood mouldings (The Mill). Each manufacturing plant has its own highly specialized staff for design, estimating and field support. Since we are manufacturers, our customers can count on our own service departments to stand behind our guarantees.

We also operate a specialized Trim & Doors branch that offers measuring, estimating and delivery capabilities for mouldings, interior doors, locks and builders hardware. Working as a team with our own milling operation (The Mill), we are the largest provider of trim packages in Southwestern Ontario.

With annual sales of over $80,000,000 (approximately 75% of which are sales to construction professionals), we have sufficient purchasing power to ensure competitive pricing for the quality of product and level of service we provide. As members of the Independent Lumber Dealers Cooperative, we also benefit from the buying power of 22 of the largest lumber companies in Canada with combined sales of $2,000,000,000. All our operations are linked with state-of-the-art computer systems for estimating, design, sales, inventory control and accounting.

Our well-known motto, “Always on the Level”, expresses the commitment of the Turkstra family and our over 200 employees to quality products, superb service, fair competitive prices and honest relationships with our customers. We keep our word, do what we promise to do and fix our mistakes when they occur.
