Yard Staff

Title: Yard Staff

Reports to: Branch Manager and Yard Foreman

Locations Required: Waterdown

Position Summary:
The Yard Staff are responsible for the customer service experience as it is provided to contractors, builders and customers during the picking and loading of purchased products. The Yard Staff must have the ability to effectively communicate to customers and coworkers to ensure friendly, efficient and accurate picking of products. The Yard Staff are expected to understand and adhere to all Health and Safety guidelines to ensure the safety of themselves and all those involved.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Greets customers as they enter the yard while offering their assistance; supervising those in the yard at all times.
  • Processes customer orders by locating and loading product.
  • Advises customers by providing knowledge of products, their application and other services; using resources where required.
  • Maintains open communication with yard staff and retail staff.
  • Protects and supports the business, customers and fellow bystanders by ensuring adherence to all Company policies, procedures and legal requirements.
    • Completes circle checks.
    • Exercises proper load building, securing and unloading techniques.
    • Wears personal protective equipment.
  • Sustains yard cleanliness and required maintenance.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities:

Responsible for any and all other duties as may be required from time to time in accordance with proper training and certification requirements; includes acting as a secondary driver.

Saw Operator - Entry Level Position

Position Summary:
The Builder is responsible for assembling a Truss to spec as per provided drawings. The Builder must have the ability to effectively communicate with fellow Builders to ensure the superior quality of finished products and demonstrate efficient work habits. The Builder is expected to understand and adhere to all Health and Safety guidelines to ensure the safety of themselves and all those involved.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Read drawings as outlined on truss table.
  • Take lumber off the carts and place into the jig.
  • Place plates within a ¼” tolerance onto configured truss.
  • Ability to safely operate gantry to press to press in plates.
  • Eject truss to outfeed roller.
  • Maintain open communication with yard staff and office staff.
  • Protect and support the business, customers and fellow bystanders by completing legally required circle checks, exercising proper loading and securing techniques and the wearing of required Personal Protective Equipment.
  • Sustains yard and shop cleanliness and required maintenance.

Window Estimator

Position Summary:
The Window Estimator is responsible for acting as the primary contact for builders, renovators and or private home owners. The Window Estimator must have the ability to effectively educate customers, promote product and prepare window quotes.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintains high standard of professionalism while liaising, consulting and communicating with customers regarding windows.
  • Meets Company standards for customer service through meeting and identifying current and future needs of customers through friendly rapport and relationship building.
    • Analyzes blue prints and preliminary drawings for windows
    • Asses window requirements
    • Completes estimates for all products required
    • Will deal directly with vendors and complete special orders as required
  • Ensures the availability of products and services through coordinating with Managers and Manufacturing plants to fill customer orders; arranging and prioritizing deliveries.
    • Coordinate with vendors for specialized quotes
  • Supports sales efforts by effectively educating our customer about our product
  • Supports Account Managers by assisting with specialized window inquiries for all assigned account.

Machine Operator

| Smithville - Turkstra Mill

Title: Machine Operator

Reports to: Production Manager

Start Wage: $13.00/hr

Position Summary:
Our Mill plant in Smithville is looking for a Machine Operator / labourer to work steady days on a 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM shift (Saturdays may be required on occasion)

In this role you will be trained on how to feed and receive lumber into a rip saw and / or moulder, and how these two main types of machines affect our lumber and mill operations.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Follow health and safety procedures and maintain a safe work environment
  • Measure the lift to check tag accuracy and correct if necessary
  • Carefully inspect lift, remove all staples and visible defects to ensure quality standards
  • Know what profile is being made to determine method of material processing depending on knots, wane, end checks etc.
  • Notify the set up person of any irregularities or set up concerns
  • Provide consistent communication to the person on the outfeed end of the moulder machine to maintain quality and quantity of product
  • Conduct the end of order procedures including measuring and tagging, marking quantity, strapping the material and preparing for the next profile.

Estimator

Title: Estimator

Reports to: Branch Manager and Director of Sales

Position Summary:

The Estimator is responsible for acting as the primary contact for builders, renovators and or private home owners with a special project. The Estimator must have the ability to effectively prepare lumber estimates, present truss and EWP estimates, sell and measure interior trim and doors, sell windows and doors for replacement or new construction, sell exterior steel, insulation and drywall.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintains high standard of professionalism while liaising, consulting and communicating with customers regarding special projects.
  • Meets Company standards for customer service through meeting and identifying current and future needs of customers through friendly rapport and relationship building.
    • Analyzes blue prints and preliminary drawings.
    • Completes quantity take-offs for all products required including lumber, windows, EWP, Trusses, Trim, and Doors etc.
    • Deals directly with vendors and complete special orders as required.
    • Completes basic Truss designs from price book as required.
  • Ensures the availability of products and services through coordinating with Managers and Manufacturing plants to fill customer orders; arranging and prioritizing deliveries.
    • Coordinates with specific Branches for specialized quotes.
  • Supports the sales efforts of the Outside Sales Staff by assisting in the completion of take-offs, quotations, etc.
  • Meets financial objectives by overseeing the management of accounts receivable for all assigned accounts.

Yard Foreman

Summary

Yard Foreman will be required to act as the main contact for all field personnel, and for all materials and tools in the yard. Responsibilities will include the development and implementation of inventory systems, analysis of trends, reporting on activities, maintaining the yard to ensure workplace safety, inspection of materials and equipment to ensure proper working condition, and efficiently storing all materials. Other responsibilities will include the scheduling, tracking and coordination of materials delivery, management of resources, and the maintenance of accurate records with performance reviews.

Job Duties

  • Develop and implement inventory systems for construction materials, small tools and construction products. Includes items like dimensional lumber, steel forms, barrier walls, chipping guns, plate tampers, grouts and sandblast sand.
  • Analyzes trends, determines method of reporting and distributes reports on a bi-weekly basis to Operations, Estimating and Project management.
  • Maintain property surrounding office and shop, including weed control, litter control and keeps yard and grounds in organized, professional manner.
  • Serves as main contact for all field personnel, and for all materials and small tools in the yard.
  • Inspect all equipment and materials when returned to the yard; thoroughly check equipment to make sure it is in working condition and store materials in an orderly fashion.
  • Work with dispatcher to develop a scheduling system to coordinate, track and provide trucking for delivery of materials to jobsites and manage resources in and out of the yard.
  • Maintains accurate inventory records and provides performance and status reports.
  • Implement efficient storage methods, yielding ready accessibility of materials, permitting efficient space utilization and flexibility of arrangement, minimizes material deterioration and allows ease of physical inventory.

Requirements

  • Completion of college/CEGEP/vocational or technical training
  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent
  • 1+ years experience as a Yard Foreman
  • Possess a valid drivers license
  • Ability to work in a fast- paced environment
  • Experience with routine maintenance operations

Work Conditions

  • Physical ability to lift up to 50lb
  • Travel to off-site locations may be required, including construction sites

Counter Staff

Position Summary:

The Counter Staff are responsible the customer service experience as provided to all contractors, builders and residential customers. The Counter Staff must have the ability to effectively communicate to customers and coworkers, gaining an understanding of customer needs, as they pertain to the construction industry, and meeting those needs in an optimal fashion. The Counter Staff are responsible for ensuring inventory is available on the floor and the Branch is kept cleanly at all times.

  • Directs, and when able, leads customer to proper location of requested products.
