Truss Designer

| Smithville - Turkstra Trusses

Position Summary: The Truss Designer will efficiently and accurately design and estimate Trusses in compliance with the OBC based on approved plans submitted by the customer.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Design:

  • Provide error free design of truss/floor systems for estimating and production.
  • Determine procedures and instructions to be followed according to design specifications.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with Architects/Designers, Sales Team, Framers, and Builders.
  • Provide strong customer service with onsite and in office consultations to ensure best possible design and accurate installation.
  • Maintain open communication with the customer, sales rep, office administrator, fellow designers.
  • Support Turkstra Lumber sales team in negotiation, presentations and designs.
  • Remain current with building trends to lead the industry in engineered wood products and design while promoting Turkstra Lumber products when possible.
  • Sustains office and workplace cleanliness.
  • Continue to develop and streamline effective processes and procedures within the EWP/Truss program
  • Job tracking
  • Quote, permit and order submission
  • New product development

Training:

  • Train required staff for the purpose of supporting and growing the Turkstra Lumber EWP/Truss program
  • Provide technical support to other Turkstra Lumber EWP/Truss Designers
  • Provide the necessary technical and product training to support sales and design team

Additional Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain accurate reports to discover trends, wins/loses for weekly submission.

Qualifications:
Education/Experience Requirements:

  • College Diploma in Architectural or Civil Technology/Engineering * Experience in EWP and/or Roof Truss design
  • Vocational training an asset
  • Experience or knowledge with related products and services
  • Experience in construction industry, framing or carpentry specifically, is an asset

Abilities/Skill Requirements:

  • Blueprint reading
  • Self-motivated
  • Customer focused
  • Results driven
  • Superior math skills
  • Knowledge of engineering and load path development
  • Communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Excellent computer (PC) skills – Autocad and MS Office
  • Ability to work in a fast pace work environment

Physical Requirements:

  • Minimum lift requirements of 66 lbs
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions

Responsibilities include setting up and negotiating programs, sourcing product and maximizing profit.

Turkstra Lumber Company Limited is a family owned and operated business that has served Southern Ontario and the Niagara Peninsula for 60 years. With 11 lumber yards and 5 specialty divisions, we provide a complete range of products for individuals and contractors in the home building, renovation and commercial construction industries; we are also an active member of the Independent Lumber Dealers Co-operative also known as the ILDC.

Assistant Branch Manager

Position Summary: The Assistant Branch Manager is jointly responsible, with the Branch Manager, for the day to day operations and overall success of the Branch. The Assistant Branch Manager must be able to effectively maintain operations in absence of the Branch Manager including the ability to effectively communicate and delegate to the Branch Staff as well as manage and prioritize customer requirements.

  • Windows
  • Building Materials

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Meets store operational requirements through proper scheduling, assigning employee tasks and following up with progress and results; everything pertaining to administrative functions.
  • Completes daily deposits.
  • Balances tills and POS system.
  • Accounts receivable and accounts payable issues.
  • Understanding and familiarity of all related procedures.
  • Meets financial objectives of the Branch and company through managing budgets including expenditures as they relate to staffing dollars, profits, sales and margin control.
  • Meets company standards for customer service through meeting and identifying current and future needs of customers through friendly rapport and relationship building.
  • Ensures the availability of products and services through inventory control including ordering and stocking product, as well as proper staffing to meet service demands.
  • Makes and receives product orders.
  • Completes negative inventory reports.
  • Addresses APPO issues including PO line history changes, debit memos for shipment.
  • Protects and supports the business by ensuring the adherence to all Company policies, procedures and legal requirements; maintains a high level of situational awareness of all branch occurrences.
  • Protects and supports employees by providing them with a clean and safe work environment; with a focus on health and safety.
  • Maintains high standard of professionalism through timely communication to customers, in person, via email or over the phone.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge through establishing personal networks with industry professionals, reviewing professional literature and attending training as offered.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for any and all other duties as may be required from time to time in accordance with proper training and certification requirements.
  • A willingness to do whatever is required to get the job done.
  • Extended hours pertaining to overflow of work, training, home shows, and other functions that may take one away from the Branch.

Qualifications: Education/Experience Requirements:

  • Completion of Secondary School
  • Vocational training an asset
  • Experience or knowledge with related products and services
  • Experience of construction industry an asset
